Orphelion was created by Deborah Gonsalves and Berthold Hamburger in Vienna. Since then Orphelion has performed in different constellations and in collaboration with different artists all over Europe, Asia and South America. The repertoire includes works from the classical period to the present, including pieces composed especially for the group. Worth mentioning is also the intense activity as a piano trio for more than a decade with the renowned Japanese pianist Mariko Moritani and the recent collaboration with the celebrated Madrid pianist Daniel del Pino.
Currently comprised of musicians from the Galician Symphony Orchestra, Orphelion has expanded its repertoire, focusing on string quartet and Piano Trio but also venturing in other areas, collaborating with painters, dancers and other forms of artistic expression.
In Galicia, Orphelion has performed in prestigous music festivals, and frequently works together with the major philharmonic music societies of the province. In that context, Orphelion wants to promote the music of Galician composers and has performed and recorded several contemporary musical works of local composers. Most live performances are recorded and emitted by Radio Televisión de Galicia.
Apart from their active concert activity, the members of Orphelion are dedicated to teaching. They participate as tutors in various youth projects and festivals.
Orphelion is committed to enhancing the welfare of the most disadvantaged. Through its cycle of charity concerts in collaboration with the "Real Academia de Belas Artes", it has for many years, brought help and relief to people in need in La Coruña.
