Berthold Hamburger

Artistic director

Berthold Hamburger was born in Munich, where he studied from 1984-1987 cello with Heinrich Klug and singing with Ingrid Bettag at the Richard Strauss-Conservatorium.
During this time and until 1994 he collaborated with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonics under the baton of Sergiu Chelebidache.

From 1987 on he continued his studies with Prof. Tobias Kühne at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. He graduated in 1991 with the title “Masters in Performance” and continued his postgraduate studies with Prof. Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartett)
During his training Berthold Hamburger further studied and took part in masterclasses with Jan Polasek, Radu Aldulescú, Martin Ostertag and Thomas Demenga.
Between 1987 and 1994 he also worked with the Bruckner Orchester Linz, Niederösterreichisches Tonkünstlerorchester and two seasons as principal cello with the Sinfonieorchester Vorarlberg.

At the same time, Berthold Hamburger studied String Quartet in Hannover with Hatto Beyerle and 1989 was invited to perform the Brahms string quintets with him and Christian Altenburger at the closing concert of the Music Festival Oberösterreich.
His musical activity, both as a soloist and chamber musician, has taken him to concert halls all over Europe, Japan, Uruguay and India, where he has also taught master classes for young artists.
2017 he was invited to perform the Haydn Sinfonia Concertante with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia under the baton of Dennis Russel Davies.

Since 1994, he is member of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia in La Coruña and regularly teaches young cellists of the Orquesta Joven de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia.
Since 1988 he performs with his chamber music ensemble Orphelion (formerly known as Artemis Ensemble) and maintains his own charity chamber music cycle, helping local non profit organisations as well as SOS children homes.

Apart from his dedication to music and teaching, Berthold Hamburger is member of Mensa International and spends much of his free time with scientific studies and other interests like aviation and outdoor sports.

With solo performances in greatest concert halls of the world including the Berlin and Munich Philharmonic; the Kennedy Center, Washington; Avery Fisher Hall, New York; Tonhalle, Zurich; Goldenen Saal, Vienna or the Scala, Milan; working with directors like Sergiu Celibidache, Charles Dutoit, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Yehudi Menuhin, Jun Märkl and Marcello Viotti, Ingolf Turban commands a repertoire of works, some of which have rarely been performed on stage.

His virtuosic skill for Niccolò Paganinis works gained critical acclaim for his March 2006 performance with the New York Philharmonic, additionally his complete recording of the six violin concertos (Telos Records) and in the TV documentary „Paganinis Geheimnis“ (merkur.tv 2006).

His extensive repertoire in all branches has produced over 40 albums. His much celebrated premiere performances have gained world wide acclaim and are now recognized as standard concert works.

In 2005 he founded the Chamber Orchestra „I Virtuosi di Paganini“. In the 11 previous years, he was professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Stuttgart, Germany, then was called to the University for Music and Theater in Munich, Germany.

Francisco Regozo

Francisco was born in Sydney in 1973 son to a Spanish fashion designer and Filipino silversmith/chemical engineer. His Spanish grandfather was nicknamed "El Cantador" (trans. "The Singer") and henceforth embarked on a varied musical upbringing. After studying trumpet, piano, computers and violin he finally settled on the Viola in his professional life and competed his Bachelor of Music Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His teachers have included Susan Khouri, Alexander Todicescu and Esther van Strallen. Francisco has played with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, various chamber ensembles, orchestras and was appointed Principal Viola of the Galician Symphony Orchestra (OSG) in 1999, where he still performs.

Luigi Mazzucato

Born in Rovigo(Italy), there he started his studies with Maestro Tommaso Poggi, obtaining his diploma at Conservatorio di Musica G. B. Martini in Bologna, under the direction of Maestro Antonello Farulli. Then he specialized with Maestros Danilo Rossi, Luca Ranieri, Vladimir Mendelsshon and Ilari Angervo in Finland, at Helsinki Conservatory, where he has also co-operated with the renowned Accademia Sibelius orchestra.

Overall winner, with the fellowship of Hindemith Foundation in Blonay (Switzerland) for the best interpretation of the same composer, at Vittorio Veneto national competition in September 2001. He was qualified for the 2003 selections at EUYO (Orchestra Giovanile Europea) and he has been a member of Orchestra Giovanile Italiana. He has been selected to participate at International courses of Gustav Mahler Foundation, playing as first viola with Maestros J. Kussmaul, T. Christ-Schneider, C. Schiller and A. Altenburger.
He has been a member of Mahler Jugend Orchestra from 2004 to 2005and participated at several tours conducted by Claudio Abbado, Ivan Fischer and Franz Welser-Most.

In October 2005 he won a competition for viola Tutti in the Orchestra Sinfonica de Galicia (La Coruña, Spain). In 2009 he has been in China in a tour with LUCERNE FESTIVAL ORCHESTRA conducted by Claudio Abbado. He’s a member of ORCHESTRA MOZART since 2004.
He has played with conductors as Carlo Maria Giulini, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Eliahu Inbal, Dennis Russel Davis, Daniele Gatti, Gustav Kuhn, Isaac Karabtchevsky.

He has co-operated with several orchestras as : Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento, Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Parma, Orchestra "G. Verdi" di Milano and with Ensemble de I Solisti di Pavia conducted by Maestro Enrico Dindo.
At present he lives in Spain, still being a member of Orchestra Sinfonica de Galicia, and in Italy he continues his co-operation with Orchestra Mozart. Luigi Mazzucato plays a Ansaldo Poggi Viola made in 1935.

Ramón Carnota

Born in La Coruña, Spain, in 1977. Ramón Carnota recived his musical education in Agrupación Musical Albéniz, in the Conservatory of this city obtaining the Honor Price of the Conservatory, and latter in Escola Luthier, Barcelona. Among the most significant musicians for his development are Fernando Rodríguez, Álex Garrobé, David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Marco Socías, José Tomás and Leo Brouwer.

In 2002, Ramón Carnota moved to Maastricht, Holland, where he studys with the italian musician Carlo Marchione. In 2004 obtains the Master diploma Cum Laude.

Ramón Carnota has been awarded in some of the most prestigious international competitions: “Andrés Segovia” (La herradura, Spain); Markneukirchen (Germany); “Cesar Aira” (León, Spain)

He had performed solo recitals in Spain, Portugal, Albany, Croatia, Montenegro, Germany, Holand, Italy, Belgium and France. Also He used to play with orquestra like the Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad de Pontevedra, Simphony Orquestra of Maastricht Conservatory, the Orquesta de Cámara Galega among others.

Nowadays Ramón Carnota teachs in the COSMAC (High Conservatory of A Coruña). He is regularly invited to give solo recitals, to take part of the jury in international competitions and to give masterclasses in some european festivals.

Stephanie Hamburger

Stephanie Hamburger commenced her studies in her hometown Munich with Jochen Gärtner and thereafter continued her education in Basel as member of the soloist class of Peter-Lukas Graf, where she graduated with the soloist diploma.

She held the position as principal flautist with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Basel and also with Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, Gärtnerplatz State Theater and Bavarian Radio Orchestra.

Since 1990, Stephanie Hamburger has been head of the flute department at Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and since 2008, she teaches flute at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich.

Nícolas Gómez Naval

Principal Assistant horn player at Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia (Spain). He hasbeen awarded the Diploma of Master of Arts with Distinction in Performance by Royal Academy of Music to the University of London. During last years he has been playing with many different orchestras. Especially notable are his collaborations at Orchestra Mozart in Bologna, conducted by Claudio Abbado, but also at Royal Stockholm Phiharmonic Orchestra and Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Recently, he has also been invited to The Cleveland Orchestra as principal horn by its Cheaf Conductor, Franz Welser-Möst.

Born in Viveiro (Spain) in 1990, he started his french horn studies at the age of 8. In 2010 he was awarded an scholarship by Fundación Albéniz to continue his studies with professors Radovan Vlatkovic and Rodolfo Epelde at Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. In 2013 he received the diplom of most outstanding student of the year. On January of the same year he obtained his bachelor degree with honours distinction in his final recital concert. Afterwards, he received an scholarship by ABRSM to study with professors Richard Watkins, Michael Thompson and Martin Owen at Royal Academy of Music in London. After that, he enjoyed an scholarship by JONDE-BBVA to take private lessons with proffesor Frøydis Ree Wekre.

He has enjoyed an important orchestral education being member of the higher level youth orchestras in Europe. At the age of 19, he joined the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (JONDE) and one year later, the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO). When he was 22, he became member of Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (GMJO), playing in most important festivals and halls around Europe. On the chamber music field, he has taken part in different festivals like Encuentro de Música y Academia de Santander in 2013, Master Music Course Japan in 2014 and 2015 and Mahler Academy in 2014.

Recently, He has been awarded some international prizes. He got the first prize, prize from the orchestra and prize for the best performance of mandatory piece at The Seventh International Wind Competition of Moscow Conservatory. He also got the second prize at XV Concorso Internazionale di Musica per Giovani Interpreti “Città di Chieri”. He has been awarded the second price (first not given) and price of the audience at the International Instrumental Competition Markneukirchen of 2016. He also got the semifinal at the “65th ARD Music Competition” in Munich.

Alejandro Salgueiro

Alex Salgueiro works at the Galicia Symphony Orchestra, as coprincipal playing bassoon and contrabassoon, position he has held since April, 2008. He combines the orchestral life with an intense chamber music activity with the Zoar Ensemble since its foundation, in 2009.

He graduated in ESMuC, Barcelona, with David Tomàs, Giorgio Mandolesi, Bernardo Verde and Josep Borràs. He has been a member of the Catalunya and Spain National Youth Orchestras as well as of the European Union Youth Orchestra. Professionally he has performed with other orchestras like the Barcelona Symphony, Barcelona Opera, Vallès Symphony, Navarra Symphony, Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon, RTVE Symphony. He has collaborated with some important contemporary music ensembles as BCN216, Grupo Instrumental s.XX and Taller Atlántico Contemporáneo, and also with chamber music groups as Camerata Boccherini, Natalia Ensemble and Orphelion Ensemble among others.

As soloist he has played with the Galicia Symphony, Orquesta Gaos, Taller Atlántico Contemporáneo. He also does occasional teaching for youth orchestras like Youth Galicia Symphony Orchestra, Catalan Youth Orchestra.

He has premiered works by José Zárate, Elena Kats-Chernin, Nikolai Kapustin, Jorge Grundman, Francisco Lara and Antón García-Abril, among others.

Daniel del Pino was born in Lebanon in 1972 of spanish parents. He started his piano studies in Rabat (Morocco), then at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Musica of Madrid (Spain), Yale University and at Southern Methodist University in Dallas (USA). His teachers were Marisa Villalba, Julián López-Gimeno, Peter Frankl and Joaquín Achúcarro. He was a Piano Professor at the Toledo Conservatory in Spain and is currently part of the Faculty at Musikene (Superior Conservatory of the Basque Country).

He has been an adjudicator at numerous national and international piano competitions and has given masterclasses at the “Klagenfurt Masterclass” (Austria), EuroArts Festival and Academy in Leipzig (Germany), Boston and Houston Universities, Barratt Due Institute in Oslo (Norway), Cap Ferret Academy (France), Jordan Academy of Music (Jordan), San Esteban de Gormaz, Presjovem in Cordoba (Spain), in Tucson and Washington (USA) and the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music (Birzeit University, Palestine).

His performances have been broadcasted by the RNE (Spanish Public Radio), RTVE (Spanish Public Television), SWR 2 (Sttutgart, Germany), Morelia (Mexico), Brasov, Bucharest and Cluj Televisions (Romania), Boston WGBH, Chicago WFMT, Dallas, Libreville, Taiwan National Television and Sydney ABC radios. He has recorded the complete Chopin etudes under the label Verso, the CD “Live in Villa San Lorenzo” with the double-bassist Alberto Bocini (NBB Records), the complete Goyescas by Granados (Verso) as well as the CDs “Minds” (violin and piano) and “No Seasons” (violin, voice, piano and orchestra) with violinist Ara Malikian and the Non-Profit Chamber Orchestra. Most recently the CD “2+2 4 Kapustin” was released, with music by Kapustin with premiere recordings of his concerto for two pianos and percussion along with Ludmil Angelov and Neopercusion. In February 2012 his CD “Looking back over Chopin” (along with saxophonist, voice-flutist and clarinetist Andreas Prittwitz) was released, with a new perspective on the music of Chopin, from an improvisational point of view. This CD was recorded and presented at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid.

Since 2010 he serves as the Artistic Director of the concert series “Cita con los Clásicos”, in Guadarrama and from 2014 also from the Festival that is organized by Sierra Musical around Madrid. He is part of the faculty as a piano professor at Centro Superior Katarina Gurska, in Madrid.

Alicia González Permuy

She was born in 1978 in Lalín [Pontevedra], where she began to study piano and violin at the age of seven. In 1995 she continued her studies at L'Escola de Música de Barcelona with Albert Attenelle [piano] and Jordi Mora [chamber music], attending at the same time to different courses with Irina Zariskaya, Manuel Carra, Almudena Cano, Josep Colom, ...

In 1999 she obtained a scholarship from the Diputación de Coruña and moved to Holland, where she did postgraduate studies at the Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg with Ton Demmers [piano] and Jan Gruithuyzen [chamber music]. She graduated in 2002 with special mention "Summa Cum Laude" and was chosen among the best students of the last year to play in the "Laureatenconcert".

After completing her postgraduate course she continued her studies with Jan Wijn, renowned pianist and Dutch teacher.

She has received several awards and diplomas: 3rd Prize at the III City of Segovia Competition [1994], “Honor Award in Middle Degree” [Lalín, 1996], Licenciate in Pianoforte Playing Diploma at the Guidhall School of Music and Drama [London, 1996], 3rd Prize at the XII International Piano Competition [Berga, 1997], Honorary Degree [10th piano] and “Fin de Carrera” Award [A Coruña, 2001], Postgraduate Diploma, Master Degree [Tilburg, The Netherlands, 2002], Finalist of the VIII Cycle of Young Interpreters [Barrié de la Maza Foundation, A Coruña, 2003], 2nd Prize in the 1st Piano Contest organized by ASGAIM and Prize for the best interpretation of Galician music [A Coruña, 2004], Special Prize to the best accompanying pianist in the 3rd National Competition of Interpretation Intercentros [Madrid, 2004].

She has an intense activity as an accompanying pianist, highlighting the work she plays in masterclasses with, for example, clarinettists Joan Enric Lluna, Michael Harris, José Luís Estellés, Antony Pay, Hans Deinzer, Antonio Saiote or Walter Boeykens, as well as Donald Blakeslee, tuba soloist of the Concertgebouw Orkest of Amsterdam.

She has given recitals in Spain, [L'Auditori de Barcelona, Auditorio Manuel de Falla de Granada, ..], Belgium, Holland, Portugal, France, ... beginning her solo career with the Brabants Conservatorium Orkest. She has also performed as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia and has recorded for RNE [2005].

She has an extensive orchestral experience: she collaborates with the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia regularly; she has also performed with the Ciudad de Granada Orchestra or the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra. This activity has led her to play in such important venues as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Kölner Philharmonie or the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, among others, and has allowed her to work with conductors such as Michail Jurowski, Jesús López Cobos, Ton Koopman , Alberto Zedda, Christian Zacharias, Dima Slobodeniouk, Lorin Maazel, ...

She is currently a piano teacher at the Conservatorio Superior de Música of A Coruña, while continues her concert career as a soloist as well as in the chamber music field.

The music of Octavio Vazquez has been performed throughout the US, Europe, and Asia, in venues such as Carnegie Hall, the National Auditorium of Spain, Cologne's Philharmonie, or the Big Hall of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He has also written for film and collaborated with world-music artists as an arranger, orchestrator and producer, most notably with Grammy Award winner Cristina Pato. His orchestration of "Negro Caravel" for Ms Pato's CD "Muller" was nominated for the 2011 Spanish Music Academy Awards. A winner of numerous national and international prizes, recent recognition includes I-Park Foundation and MacDowell Fellowships.

His works have been recorded for the labels Naxos, Delos, Landra Music, Gale Recordings, Ouvirmos, Fol Musica, and Bohemia Music, and by national radio and TV networks in the USA, Spain, Russia, and China. His catalog currently includes over sixty titles, all of them published by the Conwell Publishing Group of New York.
